Volunteer of the Month: Leah Henderson

Brain Health Bootcamp Superhero

Leah Henderson has been volunteering with Brain Health Boot Camp since it began in February of this year.  Brain Health Boot Camp is for individuals who have recently been diagnosed or are recognizing symptoms of early memory loss.  The program emphasizes memory enhancement through cognitive stimulation, physical exercise, education, and socialization.

Leah volunteers with the program because she says her heart is focused on helping families with a loved one living with dementia.  “It is a tough road.  People need support and they need guidance”.  Leah took care of both of her parents for 20 years and feels connected, experienced and educated to offer support to others.  She considers it a privilege to volunteer with the program and says Brain Health Boot Camp is beyond her expectations.  She wishes it had been available for her parents because she says it may have helped delay the progression of their illnesses.

In addition to volunteering at JF&CS, Leah also volunteers as a speaker for educational programs at the Alzheimer’s Association.
