NORC Bids Farewell to Barbara Rosenberg

On December 31, 2011, JF&CS said goodbye to one of most faithful and long-standing employees, when Barbara Rosenberg retired after 22 years of incredible service.  Her outstanding achievements have positioned JF&CS’ NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community) program and older adult services as one of the leading programs available for older adults in the State of Georgia.

Thanks to Barbara’s inspiring leadership, JF&CS has become one of the premier resources for the aging population. Under Barbara’s purview, JF&CS became the first in Georgia to form a community-aging model dedicated to ensuring that older adults living in their homes had a sense of community and did not feel isolated. What we are all now familiar with as the Naturally Occurring Retirement Center (NORC) model came to fruition thanks to Barbara’s innovation. The model has been so successful, it garnered Federal and State funding and has generally become the flagship model for aging in place in the state of Georgia. Certainly, the implementation of the successful NORC model is one of Barbara’s greatest legacies to our community.

Barbara has always been at the forefront of trends in the aging-care arena. Thanks to her expertise in understanding demographics and the “aging wave,” 5 years ago JF&CS created the AVIV Older Adult Services Division to respond to these trends. In addition, Barbara is known within the aging services community as a leader and a big thinker! Her resume of community involvement includes several terms as President of the Georgia Gerontology Society (GGS); past member of the Health Systems Partnership through the Atlanta Regional Commission; participant in the Alzheimer’s Association and the Fuqua Center’s Advisory Committee and Mental Health and Aging Task Force. She is a past recipient of the GGS’ prestigious Louis Newmark Award, recognizing her outstanding accomplishments in the field for 10+ years.

On the occasion of her retirement, a client at the NORC made this beautiful video as a thank you to Barbara for all of her hard-work & dedication. We are pleased to share it with you.

In honor of Barbara’s exceptional legacy of service, JF&CS has created The Barbara Rosenberg Fund for Innovative Aging Practices. The Fund will be used to empower older adults through advocacy, access to information and training on aging issues and may provide grants for workshops, community forums, programs & services at JF&CS and/or the NORC to empower older adults. https://yourtoolsforliving.org/donate/tribute to make a gift.
